On-Site Conductance Diagnostics & Health Reports
When a car refuses to crank on a cold morning, drivers frequently assume the 12V battery is exhausted. However, jumping to conclusions without diagnostic testing often leads to replacing a perfectly good battery when the true culprit is a parasitic electrical drain, a seized starter solenoid, or a failing alternator charging diode.
Ali Recovery Group provides complete on-site diagnostic testing before recommending replacement. Our mobile units carry digital conductance battery analyzers that evaluate your battery's internal cell condition under real load without drawing down charge. We measure:
- State of Health (SOH %): Internal plate sulfation and active material degradation.
- State of Charge (SOC %): Actual resting voltage (12.6V+ = 100%, 12.0V = 25%).
- Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): Actual cranking current vs. factory DIN/SAE rating.
- Alternator Ripple & Load Voltage: Live alternator output test under headlights and heater blower load.
AGM vs. EFB: The Modern Stop-Start Standard
Vehicles equipped with fuel-saving Automatic Engine Stop-Start systems place extraordinary demands on the battery. A typical vehicle engine starts once or twice per journey; a Stop-Start vehicle may start 30 to 50 times in city commuter traffic while simultaneously running headlights, infotainment, and air conditioning.
Standard traditional flooded lead-acid batteries cannot withstand this continuous micro-cycling. Fitting a standard battery into a Stop-Start vehicle will result in premature chemical failure within three to six months and can cause dangerous electrolyte boiling!
AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)
Electrolyte absorbed into ultra-fine fiberglass separators. High dynamic charge acceptance, completely spill-proof, 3x cyclic life. Essential for premium BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and regenerative braking systems.
EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery)
Polyfleece scrim plates offering 2x the endurance of standard batteries. Ideal for entry-to-mid range Stop-Start vehicles (Ford, VW, Vauxhall, Toyota).
Mandatory OBD-II Battery Management (BMS) Coding
In modern vehicles, changing a battery is no longer a simple five-minute mechanical spanner task. Modern ECUs feature sophisticated Battery Management Systems (BMS) that actively calculate battery internal resistance and age over time, gradually increasing alternator charging voltage to compensate for aging cells.
If a brand-new battery is fitted without performing an OBD-II BMS Registration, the ECU assumes the old degraded battery is still installed. The alternator will aggressively overcharge the new battery, causing premature cell dry-out and disabling Stop-Start functionality. Our mobile technicians connect advanced diagnostic tablets to code the new battery serial number, chemistry (AGM/EFB), and amp-hour capacity directly into your vehicle's power management ECU.
Memory Saver Protection & Eco-Friendly Recycling
Disconnecting vehicle battery terminals abruptly can wipe out ECU adaptation maps, trip electronic immobilizers, lose radio security PINs, and desynchronize electric window anti-pinch sensors.
Before removing your old battery, we plug a continuous 12V auxiliary memory saver into your OBD-II diagnostic port. Your vehicle's onboard computers, digital clock, radio presets, and satellite navigation remain fully powered throughout the swap. Furthermore, we collect your old toxic lead-acid battery and transport it to licensed UK chemical recycling plants for safe reprocessing.
